Am Wochenende ging das altehrwürdige Sundance Film Festival, das erste große Filmfest des Jahres, in Park City, Utah zu Ende.
In diesem Rahmen wurden auch die diesjährigen „Sundance Film Festival Awards“ in verschiedenen Kategorien durch prominent besetzte Jurys verliehen, zudem gab es auch auch wieder diverse Publikumspreise.

Die wichtigsten Auszeichnungen gingen dabei an das Drama „Whiplash“ von Damien Chazelle (Großer Preis der Jury – Bester Spielfilm UND Publikumspreis – Bester Spielfilm), „Rich Hill“ von Andrew Droz Palermo & Tracy Droz Tragos (Großer Preis der Jury: Bester Dokumentarfilm) sowie „Alive Inside: A Story of Music & Memory“ von Michael Rossato-Bennett (Publikumspreis – Bester Dokumentarfilm).
